Pickett, Kate

Prof. Kate Pickett is Professor of Epidemiology at University of York and a trustee of The Equality Trust. Kate’s research focuses on the social determinants of health, in particular the links between inequality, wellbeing and sustainability. She co-authored, with Richard Wilkinson, the bestselling book “The Spirit Level”. Kate was awarded a 2013 Silver Rose Award from Solidar for championing equality, the 2014 Charles Cully Medal of the Irish Cancer Society, and the 2015 Alexander Morison Medal from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh

She sits on the Scientific Council of Inequality Watch, the Scientific Board of Progressive Economy, the Steering Committee of the Alliance for Sustainability and Prosperity. She is also a member of the Human Capital Research Working Group of the Institute for New Economic Thinking, a Fellow of the RSA and of the UK Faculty of Public Health. Previously, Kate was a UK National Institute Health Research Career Scientist from 2007-2012.
