The Club of Rome is partnering with Earth Charter in this anniversary webinar centered on efforts towards planetary wellbeing and ecological civilizations.
2023 marks the mid-point of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The United Nations will be organising the 2023 SDG Summit in September this year. Last year, the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) called for this Summit to “mark the beginning of a new phase of accelerated progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.”
In this context, in the middle of the road towards the intention to achieve the SDGs, questions arise in regard to the extent to which these global efforts towards sustainability have had an impact in contributing to planetary wellbeing. Some questions and perspectives that will be included in the discussion are:
- What are some of the good practices implemented in the effort of implementing the SDGs?
- What are the necessary actions we as humanity need to take to significantly accelerate our response to address the pressing challenges and build ecological civilizations?
- What are the relationships between the SDGs and the Earth Charter?
- What should be the role of the Earth Charter in this coming phase of the 2030 Agenda and the efforts needed to promote planetary well-being and in moving our societies towards an ecological civilization?
Speakers include Jeremy Lent, Author and Founder of the Deep Transformation Network, Laura Restrepo, Special Projects Coordinator at Climate Reality Latin America, Ricardo Young, President of the Board, Ethos Institute for Business and Social Responsibility, and Akpezi Ogbuigwe, Educator and Member of the Earth Charter International Council.
