Published 2026 – This publication revisits the history of the Club of Rome from its founding in 1968 to the present day. Drawing on archival research and interviews with long-standing members, it traces how the organisation evolved through moments of global influence, silence and renewal. The article explores how systems thinking shaped the Club of Rome’s identity across decades, far beyond its most famous publication, The Limits to Growth. It offers a reflective account of how long-term thinking adapted to changing political, social and ecological contexts. Together, these perspectives illuminate how the organisation’s past continues to inform its role today.
This booklet was developed collaboratively as a project by the 2025 Club of Rome Communications Fellows. It includes decade-based deep dives and thematic essays exploring key turning points in the Club of Rome’s global journey.
