Cannon, Amy

Amy Cannon is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Beyond Benign, a non-profit dedicated to green chemistry education. She holds the world’s first Ph.D. in green chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Cannon worked in industry and academia before founding Beyond Benign.

Cannon envisions a world where the molecular building blocks are safe and healthy for humans and the environment. In order to achieve this ambitious vision, she focuses her work at Beyond Benign on empowering educators to transform chemistry education for a sustainable future.

Cannon leads several initiatives aimed at institutionalizing green and sustainable chemistry throughout education systems, including the global program, the Green Chemistry Commitment, an institutional commitment for universities to adopt green chemistry principles and practices.
