Gasparini, Alberto



Prof. Alberto Gasparini is professor of sociology at the University of Trieste and President and founder of the International University Institute for European Studies, and director of the Italian future studies journal “Futuribili”. Previously, he was Director of the International Sociology Institute of Gorizia (1989-2011).

Recipient of numerous international awards and several honorary doctorates, Alberto’s main fields of research are transborder relations, urban and rural sociology, regional planning, international relations, ethnic relations and futures studies.

He is a member of the expert group on the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation which aims to create a European platform of training and research institutions in the field of transborder cooperation organized by the Council of Europe. He also sits in the directing board of several Italian and international scientific institutions such as the International Futures Research Academy.
