Yvonne Wambua is a Nairobi-based filmmaker and storyteller passionate about climate justice and sustainability. With a background spanning festival-nominated films, including Cheza (Kalasha Best Student Film 2023), WABA (screened for Day of the Girl Child by Global Partnership for Education 2024), and I Know My Rights (Uganda Film Festival nomination 2025)—as well as digital branding and campaigns for Kenyan startups. Most recently, she served as a Knowledge and Research Intern at the World Agricultural Forum, where she shaped research-based storytelling on climate-smart agriculture. There, she authored the piece, When Climate Solutions Hurt, weaving local voices and data to critically interrogate development practice. She brings a creative eye for translating complex climate data into human stories. Yvonne believes in the power of merging arts-driven narratives with strategic climate communication. She has her professional roots in visual storytelling, with a commitment to grassroots voices.
“As I reflect on my journey, I recognise a profound shift. My path in filmmaking no longer feels isolated from the world it seeks to represent. It now sits within a broader ecosystem. I progress from the fellowship with sharper editorial judgment, greater confidence in collaborative work and a deeper sense of purpose in media, communications and public relations. More than anything, aware that communication shapes how we understand the world and how we choose to act within it. That awareness, I have learned, is where meaningful work begins.”
