Goals for Mankind

Published 1977 – Earlier reports to the Club of Rome focused on problems of the world’s economy. Based on computer models, the stress was on strategies to solve international crises resulting from poor economic planning and unrestricted economic growth.

Goals for Mankind takes a different track. Here the attention is on the human element, especially the differing cultural attitudes and value theories that characterise individuals, groups, and nations in what have become known as the “first, second, and third worlds”. By understanding the influence of a specific religion, for example, we can better predict how a person or nation will respond to new economic and political policies. Before new goals are outlined, we need to know the cultural realities concerning their probable success or failure.
