The membership is composed of active members, associate members, honorary members and institutional members.

Active members of the Club of Rome are persons of outstanding intellectual ability and well established reputation for their professional work within international scope who are willing and able to promote actively the mission of the Club of Rome. Active members are elected by the Executive Committee for renewable terms of five years having first been proposed by a member of the Club. Their number is limited to 100. The Club aims at a balanced representation of regions, cultures, professions, age and gender among its members.
In order to protect the Club’s independence, active members who are appointed to high public position must resign from active membership for the term of such an appointment.

Associate members are individuals who are interested in the work of the Club and wish to co-operate. They apply for admission to the Club or are proposed by a member of the Club. Associate members are elected by the Executive Committee for renewable 5-year terms.

Honorary members are individuals whose high positions, fame, reputation, works or actions can serve the mission of the Club of Rome and support its action. They are proposed by a member of the Club and elected by the Executive Committee.

Institutional members are organisations, foundations and enterprises aiming at objectives close to those of the Club of Rome and wishing to contribute intellectually and financially to the mission of the Club. The institutional members are accepted by the Executive Committee on the recommendation of a member of the Club or they can apply for membership.
