Dr. Robert Hoffman, CanadaResearch Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, currently as Co-Founder and President of whatIf? Technologies Inc.

Economist by training and systems modeler by vocation, Robert Hoffman has been involved in systems modeling for four decades, first at Statistics Canada, then as research associate professor at theUniversityofWaterloo, and, since 1990, as co-founder and president of whatIf? Technologies, a company specializing in custom simulation modeling for strategic planning and scenario analysis in problem domains ranging from urban planning, to national energy systems and global sustainability. Appointments include terms as visiting researcher at the Harvard Economic Research Project and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis and as consultant to United Nations agencies in the field of energy analysis. He is author or co-author of articles and professional papers published in scholarly journals and books. His work in global systems modeling has been recognized by the United States Association for the Club of Rome for which he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. He is a director and past chair of the Canadian Association for the Club of Rome, an associate member of the Club of Rome, and a trustee of the American Society for Cybernetics. His current interest is in casting economics as a complex evolutionary system.
