Professor, University of Pennsylvania, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics, Philadelphia, PA and member of the Faulty Graduate Groups of International Studies of the Lauder Institute of Management and International Studies (MA/MBA program), of the Institute for Environmental Science, and of the Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership of the Wharton Business School. His B.S. and M.S. are from the Technion, and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Since the early 1970-s he is working in energy/power and water desalination and their sustainable development research, education and consulting, and he won a number of research and education awards, including the Japan Heat Transfer Society Science Prize, the International Desalination Association Best Treatise (twice), the SAE Ralph R. Teetor Award for excellence in education, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Senior Fellow Award, and twice the ASME E.F. Obert award for the best paper in thermodynamics. He was a Director of the American Solar Energy Society and Chairman of its Engineering Division, and Chairman of the Scientific Committee, International Centre for Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems, and is regularly part of the leadership of international scientific conferences about sustainable development, for example in 2011 of www.ecos2011.com/ and www.dubrovnik2011.sdewes.org.

He is frequently an invited keynote speaker at international conferences on sustainable energy and water desalination development.
