Walter R. Stahel

 

Born 5 June 1946, Swiss Citizen.

 

Alumni of ETH, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, in Zurich, where he received his diploma in architecture in 1971;

Founder-director of The Product-Life Institute Geneva, since 1983;

Vice Secretary General and director of risk management research of the Geneva Asso­ciation (International Association for the Study of Insurance Economics), since 1987.

HONOURS

 

In 2012, Stahel received the Honorary Degree of Doctor of the University from the University of Surrey in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of Sustainability.

 

In 2005, Stahel was appointed Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences of the University of Surrey, Guildford. This appointment was renewed in 2008 and again in 2011.

 

In 1982, with a paper “The Product-Life Factor”, Stahel was one of the laureates of the Mitchell-Prize Competition on sustainable societies in Houston, TX, USA.

In 1978, together with Peter Perutz, Stahel won a first prize in the competition of the German Future’s Society, Berlin, with a paper on unemployment, occupation and profession.
