It is with great sadness that the Club of Rome announces that
Dr. Sergey P. Kapitza †
passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 in Moscow, Russia, aged 84.
Kapitza was a Member of the Club of Rome, Vice-President of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Russia, President of the Eurasian Physical Society, Senior Research Associate at the Lebedev Physics Institute, the Russian Academy of Sciences and Professor of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.
Through his authoritative and original attempts to resolve the most complex and controversial issues facing humanity at critical times of radical change, Sergey Kapitza not only crossed the unseen borders separating different areas of research, but has successfully bridged the major divide between the humanities and ‘hard’ sciences.
His groundbreaking work and studies in the fields of physics and demography will never be forgotten.
The Club of Rome has many reasons to be thankful to Sergey Kapitza. Our thoughts are with his family.
In grateful remembrance
